Real world stories
In the US, the latest passing privacy bill, The USA Patriot Act (Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism), signed into law October 26, 2001 by President George W. Bush as a result of the attack of September 11, 2001, has allowed major telephone, cable and internet providing companies to collect, share and sell nearly any kind of consumer data without permission. There are still some limits like social security, financial and personal health, geographic locations and indecent slander or targeted ad's where many of these factors would have no use to these companies, people who obtain access to these companies make them more accessible and acceptable for nearly anyone. More operators are being built for these companies to help ease consumers into these collections with more and clear notices, options to opt out or public awareness of who's accessing your data. Legally, people are more concerned about what we don't know and how much further companies can take our data without our clear understanding. Besides that, illegal data activity like hacking, terrorism or activism has grown a lot, it's found new reasons for crime and made much easier for consumer tech to allow hacking and hackers to attack anyone. People are getting very defensive about these issues as to retain all use from these gadgets we use although some are very open to the potential ease of communication data collection and sharing holds and try to make sure that everyone should be aware of updating scandals, news and laws.
